Subtle Union is a group of distorted and impressionistic landscape photographs.They are single exposures made in-camera with a mirrored surface on or near the Pacific Ocean. Working outside, I think how lucky I am to be alive—about how strange and beautiful it is—and about the joy of looking and making. Simultaneously, and even while outdoors by myself, the unhappy competitive ugliness of our angry politics is never too far away and I try and hold both in mind while making these disintegrating landscape pictures.
